A New Venture

I have been neglecting this blog so badly. My apologies. College. It’s a busy time.

Recently, I’ve started to change my life’s path a little bit. I’ve actually been contemplating a career in writing, which is the new venture mentioned in the title. I may use this blog as a bit of a storage facility for my practice writing (WARNING: It will be terrible).

In other life news…I’m now a Classics major, I’m home on thanksgiving break, and my laptop is broken. I’m also bald again, so that’s fun.

I’m going to end this trainwreck of a post here, so au revoir!

My Cats

You may have gathered from the title of this blog that I have four cats. Yep, FOUR. I have two “big” ones and two “little” ones, even though they’re all around the same size now.

The first one we got was Winston, whom I refer to as Winnie. We got Winnie at the end of my sophomore year of high school. For a while after my cat Oliver mysteriously disappeared, we had no animals. This was a very peaceful time for my mother. However, one May night, my sister brought home a magnificent little kitten. (This was also the night of my St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra preliminary audition, which is the only reason I remember that it was in May.) My niece named him Shadow.

This was Winnie the night we got him. His name was Shadow back then. Here, he is being held by my little brother.

Several months went by. After we decided Shadow was dumb, we moved on to Harry. Then we changed it to Merlin. and finally settled on Winston.

Around the time we picked his name, I found two abandoned kittens under my porch. I took care of them for several weeks, but they both passed away. (We’ve decided that they were simply born too early, and that their mom probably abandoned them for a reason.) Their names were Little Grey and Orangie. I referred to them by their colors instead of names to keep from getting attached, since their survival was unlikely, but the colors ended up being their names.

After Lil Grey and Orangie passed away, my heart was broken. However, my mom’s coworker, Cindy, knew of a lady who was fostering a litter of kittens. She took me out to look at them, where I fell in love with this beauty.

She was so cute.

I picked her. On our second visit, I took this.

When I brought her home, I named her Callie. She is too smart for her own good. (TODAY IS ALSO HER BIRTHDAY. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAL)

We lived happily in our two-cat household until about a year ago. My mom’s friend posted about some barn kittens she was giving away. I was in Springfield at the time. They hid in our laundry room until I got home. I took this picture the first night I was with them:

20140810_004048We had trouble deciding on their names, but eventually chose Pinky and Salem. Pinky was so named because her ears, her nose, and the pads of her paws are bright pink. Salem is named after this:

And here's Pinky, my other favorite. She lays on me a lot, and has a special "pick me up" meow for me. When I pick her up, she clings to me. I call her "ping pong" sometimes.

All of my cats are exclusively indoor cats. I take Callie outside on a leash, but that’s because she feels the call of the wild often and tries to escape. We live relatively close to a busy road, and a man in our neighborhood has some pretty violent dogs, so they do not leave the house. They also all have their claws, because I have pretty strong feelings about declawing.

So that’s the conclusion of today’s post! I hope you enjoyed looking at my babies.

A Carnival Adventure

Yesterday, I had my violin lesson, far far away in the mystical lands of Belthalto (about half an hour’s drive from my house, as opposed to the ten minute drive that my lessons were before my teacher moved). On the way home, my sister called my mom, stating that she was bored and had her kids with her. She told us to meet her at the mall.

Currently, there is a carnival at my mall. You can see where this is heading.

We got to the mall and I was dragged to the carnival (by dragged, I mean my sister asked me if I wanted to go and I said “YES YES YES LET’S GO NOW!!!!!”). After Amanda (aforementioned sister) bought tickets, I took her children on a helicopter ride thing, designed for small children. About this ride, my nephew stated, “That was terrific, man!”

Then, Amanda and I rode what I believe was called The Sizzler, which basically spins in erractic circles and throws you around. I derive little enjoyment from this ride, but Amanda loves it, so I humored her.

sizzler

She made me take this on the sizzler thing.

Then, we took the children over to the bumper cars. My nephew, Jackson, was unfortunately too little to ride, so Reese went off on her own grand adventure while me and Jack took pictures.

We took some selfies to cheer Jack up, since he couldn't ride the bumper cars.

After Reese destroyed everyone with the bumper cars, we walked over to this little miniature roller coaster thing. It was one of the ones that spins while it moves, if that makes sense? I will tell you right now, it was awful. I rode with Reese, who couldn’t decide if she loved it or hated it. She cowered into me the whole time.

The children went off with my mother to a Frozen-themed bounce house, and me and Amanda rode some “big kid rides”. Now that was fun.

Finally, I went with Reese onto a little caterpillar ride. It was da bomb.

Discussing the fact that the ride is based around a caterpillar trying to escape being eaten by baby birds.

All in all, it was a fun, adrenaline filled night. We went to Pizza Hut afterwards, and then I came home and went to bed at 9:30…I guess I was really tired. 🙂

Slight Neglect

Well, I’ve only had this blog for four days and I’m already neglecting it!

I genuinely have not had anything to write about. Same old school, same old home…

I did do something impressive today – I actually got dressed AND cleaned my room. On a weekend! So proud of myself. (I realize this makes me look like a bit of a bum. Oh well. I don’t get dressed on weekends unless I have to go somewhere. So eat me.)

This past week, I have also had quite the un-glamorous bug. I couldn’t keep a full meal down from Monday to Friday night, which was lovely. I must have lost at least three pounds. Luckily, I seem to have recovered. ‘So yeah, excuses upon excuses for not writing…

I have a couple of ideas for posts now, so I guess uhh…stay tuned?

I’ll leave you with a link to my favorite youtube person, I suppose.

Have a wonderful Monday tomorrow/week ahead!

A New Blog?

If you’re reading this, I’m probably super excited.

The reason? I’ve made a blog, and can now share my life with the masses! The main reason I’ve created this little corner of the internet is because my brother brought me and new keyboard, and I like typing on it.

The future includes:

  • pusheen
  • violin
  • makeup
  • new stuffed animals
  • gymnastics
  • the remainder of high school
  • COLLEGE?!
  • random ideas or fixations I have

…and so much more.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I hope to have a lot of fun with this in the upcoming months!
